Born in Taylor on June 10, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Sweeney Gunning. She graduated from Pittston Area High School and received her Associate Degree from Luzerne County Community College. She was employed as a Patient Assistant for the VA Hospital.
Surviving are eight sisters; Peggy Faraday (Ron), Newton, Nancy Gunning, Potomac, MD, Mary Jo Triani, Plains, Eileen Sgarlat, Pittston, Norine Szydlowski (Joe), Scranton, Claire Brennan, Clarks Summit, Colleen Griglock, Waverly, Rita Gunning, Pittston; and a brother, Joseph Gunning, Pittston.
She was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Richard Triani and Paul Brennan.
Cathy’s family would like to thank Dr. Tyler Policlt, MD, Dr. Kristin M. Liptock, DO, Eileen Maloney, CRNP, Geisinger ICU and PCU, Rachelle Amico, PAC, and Patricia Slusser, NP. The family would also like to thank Hematology/Oncology for taking care of Cathy for the last two years, treating her as a human being and not as a number.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Paul F. Leonard Funeral Home, 575 North Main St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon in Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish, Pittston, to be celebrated by Reverend Paul McDonnell, OSJ. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Harding. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.Guestbook
